Book of Mormon

I started a 'read the Book of Mormon in 40 days' program 43 days ago - and finished today! Am I disappointed that I read it in 43 days not 40? Not one bit. It was such an amazing experience that I can't help but be happy with my efforts. The truth is if I skipped a day (which happened a little too often) I actually felt a void - it's a little hard to explain. Anyway, I just want to share my testimony of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. I know it has been given to us as a gift to bless our lives and lead us on the path to eternal life.

At times during my reading I got frustrated with the people who continually fell into the 'pride cycle' - and then I realized that they didn't each have personal copies of the scriptures like we do today. Their prophets had sometimes a single copy, but the people did not. Would things have gone a little better for them had they been able to study their scriptures in their homes as a family each day? Of course I really don't know. But I do know that today we are so blessed to have access to the words of the prophets both ancient and contemporary - if we choose to take advantage of it. I love the term 'less is more' and use it often, but I have learned over the last 43 days that when it comes to reading the Book of Mormon, 'more is more'!

  1. Good job! You are a great example. I think I'm going to try to do that on my own. Last week I had to teach on the scriptures to my Gospel Principals class and I realized how much work I need to do. We really are blessed to have such inspired writings at our fingertips. Thanks for sharing. :)

  2. The pride cycle always annoys me to...I think - come on people - why can't you just stay righteous and humble? But then I look at myself and think - oh, I get it.

  3. Erin,
What a great post. I am grateful for your testimony. I think I should do a quick 43-day read-through like that.

Your trip to Vegas looks awesome. What a great surprise for Brian!

  5. Erin! I totally stalked you through Christina's blog. I knew you had one, but I totally forgot. You're so fabulous for finishing! I only got to...well, not very far. I blame it on not feeling well, but that's a pretty lame excuse. I totally got annoyed with the pride cycle too - I thought "hello? are you serious? don't you learn?" but I know I have been guilty of it too! You're so fabulous, hope you are feeling better!
